The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal’s recommended 3.1 per cent increase for Queensland councillors will take effect in the Moreton Bay region from Jan 1 2010. It is the first pay adjustment for Moreton Bay councillors since amalgamation almost two years ago. The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal is an independent body which sets pay rates for Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councillors across Queensland. The increase is consistent with those recently approved for Federal and State Members of Parliament. The Tribunal’s amalgamation allowance will continue to decrease annually until March 2012.
